Cowboys RB Joseph Randle undergoes thumb surgery

The Cowboys' desire to have rookie Joseph Randle @JRAN_1 be their No. 2 running back right away needs to be dialed back for a bit. Randle recently underwent thumb surgery and will be in a cast for at least six weeks. Cowboys owner Jerry Jones said the team knew about Randle's thumb issue when they drafted him in the fifth round. But Randle won't be completely out of action; Jones said Randle will still do some individual drills in minicamp and OTAs, and he is expected to be back to full strength by training camp.

Fantasy Analysis:

It's a significant development for Randle because his greatest strength as a running back may be his receiving skills. But assuming everything heals well, he should have a full training camp to prepare for the season behind injury-prone DeMarco Murray. Because Murray is a safe bet to miss games, Randle needs to be on your radar in every type of league. The underwhelming duo of Lance Dunbar and Phillip Tanner are the next two RBs on Dallas' depth chart.
