Patriots uncertain about TE Rob Gronkowski's back injury

Rob Gronkowski @RobGronkowski's fourth forearm surgery in the past half year was deemed a total success earlier this week. The best news coming out of the surgery was that it doesn't look like a fifth will be needed. But Gronkowski and Patriots fans can't really take a deep breath as a back operation still looms. Gronkowski is expected to return to the OR in about three weeks for that operation. As for how long he will need to recover from that, no one seems to know, including Patriots owner Robert Kraft.
"I wish I knew as much as you'd like me to know," Kraft said to's Ian Rapoport this week when asked about Gronkowski's operation.
The belief is Gronkowski will be ready for the regular season, but Rapoport thinks that may be too hopeful.
"Maybe it's time to turn the focus to a possible stint on the physically unable to perform list and a midseason return," Rapoport wrote. "Thinking of this situation in those terms might help for all parties."

Fantasy Analysis:

We are still deep in the forest with this situation. There have been reports stating Gronkowski's back operation will be "minor," but who knows? It seems like the Patriots don't. And while Gronk's forearm drama is over for now, you can't say for sure that issue is completely dead after four operations in six months. I don't like spending a lot of money early on tight ends anyway, but I'm staying far, far away from Gronk if I'm drafting in the recent future. More updates will be coming in bunches throughout the summer.
