Scouts: Injuries, heavy workload have taken toll on Lions QB Matthew Stafford

The Lions script a largely one-dimensional offense, something that probably won't change much if at all this season. Reggie Bush was signed to improve Detroit's running game, but he will likely be most impactful when used as another receiving outlet for quarterback Matthew Stafford @Staff_9.
After an injury-plagued first two years in the league, Stafford has played in every regular-season game since the start of 2011 and has launched a league-high 1,390 pass attempts since. ESPN's Seth Wickersham wrote Tuesday that scouts say there is a correlation between all of those passes, those injuries and the change in Stafford's throwing motion.
"Watch highlights of his rookie season or even his college years, and you'll see a cleaner release," Wickersham writes. "Stafford has never been a classic, over-the-top thrower like Peyton Manning, but his motion at times has dropped from three-quarters years ago to almost underhanded."

Fantasy Analysis:

Not that it has been a major problem in the past couple of years for fantasy owners. Stafford has never been an overly accurate passer at this level, but the volume of throws keeps his numbers up. Maybe he runs into a chronic shoulder problem down the road, but at 25 years old, Stafford is in the prime of his career and has the weapons and offense around him to put up another 5,000-yard, 30-touchdown campaign.
