Battle to be Broncos' starting RB is 'wide open'

According to FantasyFootballCalculator.com, Broncos rookie running back Montee Ball is being drafted an average of eight rounds ahead of any other back on his team. So, fantasy owners are certainly expecting him to be a major part of Denver's running game this year. Most NFL reporters share the same expectation, as do his teammates.
Gray Caldwell, editor of the Broncos' official website, concedes that Ball will be given "every chance" to be the starter, it is not as open-and-shut as it may seem.
"That race seems to be relatively wide open after (Willis) McGahee's release," Caldwell wrote Friday. "The rookie will have every chance to take over that role at some point this season. Of course, it could end up being a running-back-by-committee situation. [Head coach John Fox's] Carolina teams seemingly always had two big-time backs that could rotate every other series or so -- Stephen Davis and DeShaun Foster, then Foster and DeAngelo Williams, then Williams and Jonathan Stewart. Could it be the same situation with Ball and (Ronnie) Hillman? Could (Knowshon) Moreno factor in? Something to keep an eye on as camp progresses."

Fantasy Analysis:

I guess that's a possibility, but I'm not buying it. Moreno isn't even guaranteed a roster spot, and I don't think the Broncos would put half of the work on the shoulders of the diminutive Hillman. Ball still has to have a good camp, but if he continues to develop like he has throughout the offseason, he should earn the type of role right out of the gate that fantasy owners are currently expecting him to earn.
