Buccaneers sign RB Peyton Hillis

The Buccaneers now have a backup running back with a recognizable name. After Peyton Hillis worked out for them on Tuesday, the Bucs signed the former Chiefs running back to a one-year deal later in the day. Hillis will compete with Michael Smith @michaeldsmith34, Mike James, and perhaps Brian Leonard @Brian40Leonard for the right to be Doug Martin @DougMartin22's backup.
Following a breakout season in 2010 -- 1,177 rushing yards, 1,654 yards from scrimmage, 13 touchdowns -- Hillis has combined for 1,088 yards from scrimmage and four touchdowns the past two years.

Fantasy Analysis:

This is of no concern if you have already drafted Martin. He is still the second- or third-best RB in fantasy, and Hillis will be fighting for only scraps. He'll be paid the veteran minimum, so I think it's a smart, low-risk signing for the Bucs, because Leonard was their only backup RB with a carry to his name. Why no kick the tires on Hillis and see if he has anything left? It didn't seem so last year.
