Seahawks WR Percy Harvin: My injury requires surgery

Reports surfaced recently that Seattle wide receiver Percy Harvin @Percy_Harvin might undergo hip surgery. Any hopes for a miracle came crashing down Tuesday night when Harvin said on Twitter that under the knife he will go. "when everything is goin (sic) good sometimes life throw u a curve ball... sorry to half (sic) to report that my injury will require surgery..." At this point, there is no official word on whether the injury is season ending. ProFootballTalk.com reports Harvin could return late in the season, though a four-month absence means returning by December. Surgery will take place on Thursday.

Fantasy Analysis:

And the hits just keep on coming - and in terms of a fantasy impact, this one trumps injuries suffered by Dennis Pitta and Jeremy Maclin. Harvin had WR1 potential in PPR leagues and his presence with the Seahawks would provide Russell Wilson @DangeRussWilson the game-breaking talent lacking at the position last season. Harvin's presence cost Seattle a first round pick and a lucrative contract, so there's that. Because of Harvin's injury history, the risk of missing games is no shock, but this is beyond worst fears. As for what happens with the Seahawks, Harvin's loss is a major blow, but they're essentially back where they started. Wilson remains a QB1, though now should drop into the 9-12 range. As a rookie, he threw for 26 touchdowns. Wilson did that without anyone close to Harvin's level on the roster, though he'll need some of his options to improve for a statistical duplication. Golden Tate @ShowtimeTate emerges as the No. 1 target and Doug Baldwin is another promising young receiver who moves up the depth chart. The always not-as-good-as-you-hope Sidney Rice is in Switzerland for treatment on his knee. Seahawks head coach Pete Carroll does not believe the veteran will miss any games. Tight end Zach Miller's production picked up late in the season and Seattle goes three-deep at running back. Both the Seahawks and fantasy owners have a few weeks to formulate a new plan.
