Chargers TE Antonio Gates is leaner, quicker

Father Time has had Chargers tight end Antonio Gates @AntonioGates85 in his sights for the past three years. But Gates is fighting back against the inevitable. According to Kevin Acee of U-T San Diego, Gates has reshaped his 33-year-old body. He has subtracted wheat and other things from his diet, and looks quicker with his new chiseled physique. Gates said the goal of his offseason transformation was to feel better, play better, and play longer. And to shut some of his critics up.
"I know you're not supposed to listen to what people say, but there's some collective things that got me motivated," Gates said.

Fantasy Analysis:

Chronic foot pain has torpedoed Gates over the past few seasons. He is still scoring at a decent rate, but his yards and receptions are trending downward. He might put together a turn-back-the-clock season, but when I am looking for a tight end in the middle rounds of my draft, I would rather take a younger player with more upside -- Jared Cook! -- than someone whose best days are behind him, new body or not.
