Packers WR Jordy Nelson out 4-6 weeks following knee surgery

Packers wide receiver Jordy Nelson @JordyRNelson underwent "a procedure on his knee" and will miss the remainder of the preseason, according to Tom Silverstein, Packers beat reporter for the Milwaukee Journal Sentinel. ESPN's Adam Schefter out the timeline at 4-6 weeks. As for the knee surgery, Schefter added on Twitter that, "Doctors tried correcting nerve issue in Jordy Nelson's knee that has bothered him since college. Knee flared up at beginning of camp." Green Bay plays at San Francisco on September 8.

Fantasy Analysis:

Just days after the Packers lose their starting left tackle for the season with a knee injury, now they're down a No. 1 receiver at least for a few weeks. If Nelson returns at the low-end of the estimate, he's back the week of Green Bay's opener. Six weeks means a return before the Packers third game, September 22 at Cincinnati. However, the Packers have their bye in Week 4 so it's conceivable the team holds him until then if Nelson's progress is on the slow end. Even though last season's production didn't compare to his breakout 2011 campaign, Nelson remained a top 10-20 fantasy wide receiver. FFToolbox currently ranks him No. 13 in PPR formats, but that likely drops a touch depending on updates over the next few days. Randall Cobb @rcobb18's high WR2 status remains, but James Jones should move up a little while Jarrett Boykin now receives some consideration as a late round flyer. As for Aaron Rodgers, he remains a top tier quarterback option, but these injuries are not helping generate massive interest in drafting him early in this year of incredible fantasy QB depth.
