Is Jets WR Santonio Holmes milking his foot injury?

Jets wide receiver Santonio Holmes @ToneTime10 suffered a Grade 4 Lisfranc fracture on Sept. 30 last year. That's a serious injury, and it's made for a long rehab process. Maybe a little too long.
Here's what ESPN's Rich Cimini wrote Sunday about Holmes' lengthy rehab period:
"If you're betting on Santonio Holmes' return, the smart money says he will miss the entire preseason as he continues to rehab his surgically repaired foot. So when will he come back? Holmes is such a mercurial personality that people close to the organization don't know what to believe. Is his Lisfranc injury still healing or is he milking the injury to protect his self interests?"

Fantasy Analysis:

Those interests include Holmes likely becoming a free agent after this season. He is under contract through 2015, but there's no way the Jets will carry him at his current 2014 cap number of $10.75 million. So instead of pushing to rejoin a bad team and possibly re-injure himself, Holmes will be taking it slow, perhaps deliberately so. For what it's worth, Holmes said recently that he doesn't know if he will play at all this season. There was also a report that he had been telling friends he'll miss at least four games. He's a last-round stash.
