Chargers WR Robert Meachem is 'broken down'

In the first season of his four-year, $25.9 million contract with the Chargers, wide receiver Robert Meachem caught 14 passes in 15 games. And it sounds like 2013 could be even worse. According to U-T San Diego's Kevin Acee, "a person familiar with the situation said emphatically that Meachem is 'broken down,' that his body simply isn't what it was."
Acee also wrote in his Saturday column that Meachem's confidence is "fractured" and that he "looks lost in Ken Whisenhunt's offense."
Acee ended by writing that Meachem is "a receiver who can't separate, runs poor routes and has undependable hands, and he has no business being on the field."

Fantasy Analysis:

So, that's good. Or not.
Meachem's decline is mostly attributed to knee and hamstring injuries from recent years. Meachem still wants to prove his worth. As Acee writes, "Meachem wants to be good. He simply isn't. He wants to contribute. He just can't."
Even with Danario Alexander out for the season, Meachem is currently a third-stringer on the Chargers. His time in San Diego should come to a merciful end soon, but that end probably won't come until after this season. Meachem's $5 million salary for 2013 is fully guaranteed.
