Buffalo Bills continue run of fired offensive coordinators
The Buffalo Bills made it three in a week as they fired offensive coordinator Turk Schonert on Friday. Quarterbacks coach Alex Van Pelt will take over as the Bills prepare to open the season at New England on Sept. 14. Schonert was in his second season as the team's offensive coordinator. Van Pelt, who is entering his fourth season as a coach for the Bills after playing nine seasons with the team as a backup quarterback, will most likely stick with the no-huddle scheme that Schonert was trying to implement. Schonert joins former Chiefs OC Chan Gailey and former Bucs OC Jeff Jagodzinski on the unemployment line this week.
In the preseason, the Bills' first-team offense generated 279 total yards, 15 first downs and 3 points in 15 series. So the writing was on the wall; a change had to be made. But you hate this kind of upheaval for players (such as quarterback Trent Edwards) with just a little more than a week before the regular season.
