Packers WRs Jordy Nelson, Randall Cobb practice Sunday; RB DuJuan Harris sits with knee injury

The Packers' offense received some uplifting news as well as some uneasy news on Sunday. On the good side, wide receivers Jordy Nelson @JordyRNelson and Randall Cobb @rcobb18 returned to practice. They both ran routes and did some conditioning work. Nelson had not practiced since undergoing surgery to correct a nerve issue in his knee on Aug. 5, and Cobb had been out of action for at least 10 days because of a biceps injury. Neither player has played in a preseason game nor are they expected to on Thursday. But both said they feel good and would be playing if it was the regular season.
The small bummer in all of this is that running back DuJuan Harris @Ol_sLy_Foxx didn't practice. He suffered what is considered to be a minor knee injury in Friday's game, but head coach Mike McCarthy said Sunday that Harris' status is "up in the air."

Fantasy Analysis:

Harris has become the lead candidate for the job of third-down back in Green Bay. We'll let you know if his injury turns out to be more serious than initially thought. If so, it could open the door once again for rookie Johnathan Franklin @JFrank2308.
Cobb's fantasy stock never really moved as he racked up missed practices recently. He's still a WR1. This is much bigger news for Nelson, who is back on the field 20 days following a surgery that was supposed to keep him out for a month or more. I think you can move him back up into the high-end WR2 range.

Are you guys projecting that Cobb will retain KO and PR duties? I have a league where return yards are 25 yds/1 point and he's currently ranked as the 2nd WR on your custom scoring board with those settings.

Assuming he sees a reduction in that role, He'd drop down the ranks to more like #8-#10, right?

Sounds about right. He's still a WR1.

Why hasn't Randall Cobb dropped in the rankings?

Yeah. If he doesn't have return duties he'll lose about 40-50 pts. in my league.

Thanks for the reply Brian, but you didn't answer my question. Is Cobb projected to be the KR/PR for GB? Or is someone like Jeremy Ross, Franklin or Micah Hayden going to take over?

GB Head Coach stated a few weeks ago that he would like to remove Cobb from the duties of returning punts and kicks but e was not happy with the other optins at this point. Whether or not he has found someone he is going to give the return duty to I have not heard. My guess is that sometime during the year some one else will take tht resposibility from Cobb.

For what it's worth, the Packers' official website still lists Cobb as the team's first-string kick and punt returner. Could that change shortly into the season? Sure, I don't really know. But even if he doesn't return kicks, he is still a top-12 WR.
