Broncos head coach John Fox was telling the truth on Monday when he said that he wouldn't consider Montee Ball getting most of the first-team reps in practice a big deal. It wasn't. Ronnie Hillman returned to being Denver's first-string running back in Tuesday's practice. Now, who will get the first snaps when the Broncos open their regular season in eight days?
"I don't even know yet, so I don't know how (the media) know," Fox said Tuesday. "They'll both carry a big load for us this season, knock on wood. Whether it's '1A' and '1' or however you want to list it, they're both very capable and we're very pleased with both."
It's going to be an unpredictable committee in the early weeks, folks. Ball obviously has more touchdown potential as the bigger player, but his problems as a receiver and a blocker will hold him back. Likewise, Hillman needs to secure the football better. Ball is being drafted first among the duo, but he is a stretch as an RB2.
