Report: Jets QB Mark Sanchez likely needs shoulder surgery
ESPN's Chris Mortensen reported Wednesday night that Jets quarterback Mark Sanchez has been told by Dr. James Andrews that he has a torn labrum in his right shoulder. Mortensen says surgery is likely, but Sanchez is still exploring other rehab options. If Sanchez does undergo surgery, his season will most likely be over.
You kind of saw this coming after the Jets' timetable for Sanchez went from day to day to a couple of weeks to unknown. Whatever Sanchez chooses to do, Geno Smith has taken a firm hold of the team's starting quarterback job. It looks like he won't lose the job unless he gets hurt, but he remains a low-end QB2. Sanchez is meaningless in fantasy, and we've probably seen him on the field for the last time in a Jets uniform. New York's backup QBs are Brady Quinn and Matt Simms.
