Cardinals WR Larry Fitzgerald, RB Rashard Mendenhall miss second consecutive practice
Larry Fitzgerald and Rashard Mendenhall were missing from Cardinals practice for the second consecutive day on Thursday. Fitzgerald has a hamstring strain while Mendenhall is battling a toe injury.
I am concerned about both players, but probably more so with Fitzgerald. He didn't play much in the second half last week after what we thought was an aggravation of his hamstring injury. The team said he didn't re-injure the hamstring; he was just tired. Head coach Bruce Arians said that Fitzgerald has wanted to practice the past two days, but the team is playing it safe. We'll see what happens tomorrow, but this could be very much like a Roddy White situation where Fitzgerald plays at obviously less than full strength and is likely limited during the game, with a big role as a decoy.
Mendenhall was only an RB3 or a flex player when he was healthy. Now that he is running on a bad toe, I don't want anything to do with him even if he plays. Andre Ellington, who is emerging as Arizona's third-down back and scored a touchdown in Week 2, could see extra work against the Saints. But he's not worth a start past desperate PPR owners unless Mendenhall is ruled out.
