Bills C.J. Spiller knows defenses will be stacked to stop him until QB E.J. Manuel improves

Bills running back C.J. Spiller @CJSPILLER is just as frustrated as his fantasy owners. The explosive runner hasn't scored a touchdown and is averaging just 3.6 yards per carry this year. Granted, he has had a couple of tough matchups against Carolina and the Jets, a couple of good run-stopping defenses. But Spiller knows his lack of success is due to a simple plan by defensive coordinators.
"They pretty much put a lot of people in the box and dared our passing game to beat them," Spiller said. "... "If I'm a defensive coordinator, that'd be my biggest thing too, is to stop our run and pretty much make our rookie quarterback beat us."
Spiller went on to say he has "all the confidence" in E.J. Manuel @EJManuel3 and that he's going to do a "great job."

Fantasy Analysis:

However, if a defense going all out to stop the Bills' rushing attack was all that was needed to explain Spiller's first three games, how do you explain Fred Jackson @Fred22Jackson averaging 5.3 yards per carry and having 118 more yards from scrimmage than Spiller on seven fewer touches.
I would still recommend patience here. The upcoming matchups -- Ravens, Browns, Bengals, and Dolphins -- don't look very appetizing, but I wouldn't sell Spiller low; he's just too good, and you have invested too much in him. Better days inevitably lie ahead.

He's been one of the most frustrating 1st round draft picks. I keep hearing 'have patience' but we are now entering week 4, and as you pointed out he's facing unfavorable match ups in week 4, 5, 6, and 7. So half the season he's facing bad match ups. Great. Glad I bought into all the hype before the season started.

The frustrating thing about the Bills is it took a Fred Jackson injury last year to find out how to be super productive in the running game....feed Spiller the ball over and over, give him 25 or more touches and let him burn opponents. Whenever he has single digit carries his numbers are horrible and they have a mediocre run game. The best thing for them to do is feed Spiller the rock only bring Jackson in long enough to let Spiller catch his breath. I would have thought they would have learned this last year.

New coach....it takes time. As a fellow Spiller owner, I can definitely sympathize.
