Falcons head into bye with disheartening loss, a 1-4 record, handful of injured players

Perhaps no team needs and at the same time doesn't want a bye week more than the Atlanta Falcons. They headed into that bye after Monday's 30-28, last-second loss at home to Geno Smith @GenoSmith_12 and the Jets. Smith completed 80 percent of his passes, and Atlanta's defense couldn't force a turnover against a quarterback who had committed 11 of them in his first four games. The Falcons trailed 17-7 at the half, a deficit that remained following a failed attempt to score with a run from Jacquizz Rodgers on the 1-yard line with one second remaining. Matt Ryan @M_Ryan02 led the Falcons back with a touchdown pass to backup tight end Levine Tulolo, giving the Falcons a 28-27 lead with less than two minutes remaining. But as he did all game, Smith drove the Jets down the field and set Nick Folk up for a game-winning 43-yard field goal.
Injuries were added to the insult. The Falcons saw Jason Snelling @JSNELZ44 leave with a concussion, and Roddy White @roddywhiteTV suffered a hamstring injury. Julio Jones @juliojones_11 was also sidelined for a few plays near the end of the game. The loss dropped Atlanta to 1-4, four games behind the Saints in the NFC South. Now they will have to wait almost two weeks for a chance to get on the right track.

Fantasy Analysis:

Snelling's concussion may not be a big deal for fantasy owners if Steven Jackson @sj39 returns from his hamstring injury in Week 7, which is expected. But Roddy White, this just is how his season has gone. He desperately needs this bye week. Hopefully we will hear more about his latest injury soon, but he now has another body part that needs healing besides his sprained ankle. His owners have every right to be frustrated. All you can do right now is hope that the week off cures what ails him. Week 7 tell us a lot about White's potential for the rest of the season.
It was a great night for Smith, but he is still a low-end QB2. I attribute his stats largely to the Falcons' defense, which presents a plus-plus matchup for passing offenses going forward. Their next three opponents are the Buccaneers, Cardinals, and Panthers.
