Patriots RB Shane Vereen can be activated this week

New England Patriots running back Shane Vereen @ShaneVereen34 is finally eligible to return from short term injured reserve. The former Cal back required wrist surgery after a dominating Week 1 performance and hasn't played since then. He has been practicing for two weeks and is expected to return immediately into his "joker" position. He should dive right into New England's RB rotation.

Fantasy Analysis:

Vereen has been injury prone since his college days so fantasy owners will have to take whatever they can get for him. The problem looking ahead is accepting the fact that Vereen's Week 1 numbers (14 rushes for 101 yards and seven catches for 58 yards) were him at his absolute best. He's not going to produce like that every week, but at times, he can be very good. If he's still available in your league, add him and give him a shot.

Playing against Brady this week. I have Gronkowski and Vereen. Gronk is obviously in, but should I play vereen, too, in case he catches a pass for a TD? I'm having a hard time believing he will be THE guy this week...then again, the Patriots have a tough matchup for Brady and his WRs so perhaps Vereen will be used a lot...

My other flex options are Trent Richardson and Rueben Randal. I'm sitting T-Rich because hes been awful and its a Thursday game. I'm leaning Randal over Vereen. Suggestions?

I agree

Take Randal. Seems like the safer choice. Vereen is still sort of a wild card in their backfield.

This may sound like a no-brainer, but should I trade away Vareen for Chris Johnson? I feel like Jake Locker being out affects CJ's value.

Made up my mind. I'm going with Randle because Vereen plays Monday night. I don't trust the Pats with their injury reports enough to take a chance on Vereen playing monday night. I'll go with the sure bet, instead.

As for the trade, Vereen had more rushing attempts (14 to 9) and catches (7 to 0) than Ridley. If you are in a PPR, I would wait to see what Vereen does in the first 2 weeks back. Then again, if he sucks, it could be too late for a trade. In PPR, it's worth the gamble to wait and see, IMO.
