Chargers RB Ryan Mathews practices Thursday; TE Antonio Gates rests again

It may be hard to believe, but it sounds like Chargers running back Ryan Mathews @rmathews24 will make a quick recovery after suffering a soft-tissue injury on Sunday. Although he aggravated a hamstring strain during the Chargers' win over the Chiefs, Mathews returned to practice on Thursday, putting in a limited session.
Tight end Antonio Gates @AntonioGates85 missed his second straight day of practice due his own hamstring injury. However,'s Eric D. Williams wrote Wednesday night that Mathews and Gates "should be fine and ready" for Sunday's meeting with the Bengals.

Fantasy Analysis:

Gates has missed a tremendous amount of practice time over the past few years due to numerous foot issues, but he usually suits up. These are just rest days for the 11-year vet. He is a TE1 even though Cincinnati has been pretty tough on tight ends this year.
Mathews will be going up against a defense that has allowed one RB touchdown and one 100-yard rusher since Week 3. Considering the matchup and his history with injuries, Mathews is only a flex this week.
