Report: Patriots think TE Rob Gronkowski has torn ACL

One of the most dominant players in the NFL today is most likely out for the rest of this season, and his health may be in question entering the 2014 season. Patriots tight end Rob Gronkowski @RobGronkowski left Sunday's game versus the Browns in the third quarter with a right leg injury. But the worst part is that, according to ESPN's Adam Schefter via a source, the team believes Gronkowski suffered a torn ACL. He will undergo an MRI on Monday to confirm the exact nature of the injury. Gronkowski entered Week 14 with a touchdown in four consecutive games. He ended Sunday with two catches for 32 yards.

Fantasy Analysis:

Just in time for the fantasy playoffs -- brilliant. We'll let you know if the Patriots' worst fears come true Monday. This is obviously a huge loss for fantasy owners and for the Patriots; you don't just replace Rob Gronkowski and keep rolling. It is definitely worth noting that Tom Brady targeted running back Shane Vereen @ShaneVereen34 14 times after Gronkowski was injured. Vereen saw 17 targets in total, catching 12 for 153 yards, and he ran for a short touchdown. Using a very small sample, it seems like Vereen will benefit with Gronkowski out, but Danny Amendola @DannyAmendola and Julian Edelman @Edelman11 should also see more passes come their way. Still, I have to think this will hurt Brady's fantasy production over the final few weeks. He has a couple of big road matchups -- at Miami and at Baltimore -- coming up.
