Lions place TE Brandon Pettigrew on injured reserve

The Lions season effectively ended when they lost in overtime Sunday to the Giants. But they still have to play one more game. Tight end Brandon Pettigrew, however, has played his final down in 2013 and possibly with the Lions. He was placed on injured reserve Wednesday due to a sprained ankle. Pettigrew finishes with 59 catches, 567 yards and three touchdowns, all of which are his lowest marks since his 2009 rookie season. Pettigrew will be an unrestricted free agent this offseason.

Fantasy Analysis:

Pettigrew, from a production standpoint, is as mediocre as they come. If he had been able to play a full 16-game schedule, he probably would have recorded at least 70 catches, 700 yards and 3-4 touchdowns for the third consecutive year. Pettigrew's catches are basically long handoffs, and it was inevitable that his numbers wouldn't rise with Reggie Bush and Joique Bell taking up a lot of the short passes that Pettigrew's lives off of. He is a clear TE2 for 2014, and I'm really not interested to see where he plays next.
Lions backup tight end Joseph Fauria is a touchdown-or-bust option against the Vikings this Sunday.
