Vikings RB Adrian Peterson officially ruled out

While the Lions have refused to say wide receivier Calvin Johnson won't play in Sunday's meaningless game against the Vikings -- even though he hasn't practiced all week -- the Vikings themselves aren't playing any games with the injury report. They have officially ruled out injured star running back Adrian Peterson @AdrianPeterson. He was originally listed as doubtful on Friday's injury report before Saturday's downgrade. He was very limited during the practice week due to a sprained foot and a strained groin.
Peterson's season ends after 279 carries for 1,266 yards and 11 total touchdowns.

Fantasy Analysis:

Peterson won't be the No. 1 pick in the majority of fantasy drafts again next year. But top three? Probably. Yet, as a man entering his age-29 season with a lot of mileage on his legs and a mounting list of injuries, there is going to be plenty of conversation next year about how comfortable you feel to still spend such a high pick on Peterson.
For Week 17, Matt Asiata and Joe Banyard are expected to split the carries. You'll remember Asiata for his remarkably fluky line in Week 15 versus the Eagles: 30 carries, 51 yards, three touchdowns. You should expect much less against Detroit's solid defensive front.
