Colts sign former Patriot WR Deion Branch in advance of Saturday's game

The Colts have come to terms with Deion Branch less than a week away from a matchup with his former team. The former Super Bowl MVP last played in 2012, while in his third stint with the Pats.

Darrius Heyward-Bey @theDHB85 has been ruled out of Saturday's game with a hamstring injury, leaving the team thin at the WR position.

Fantasy Analysis:

This sort of sounds like a Belichik move, and it's hard not to like it. While the Colts did work Branch out in December, before they could have known they were going to play the Patiots in the playoffs, they certainly knew it was a possibility.

"We figured the questions were going to come up that we were signing this guy who spent some time in New England," Pagano said. "Is it just a coincidence or do you need the guy to help you win a football game and help your team? Every decision we make is based on what's best for this team and what gives us the best chance to win, and we think we have one heck of a football player."

Pagano's "some time in New England" refers to the 7 years Branch played for the Patriots, where he appeared in 14 postseason games. Branch is reportedly still in great shape, has a ton of exprience, and obviously knows a thing or two about the Patriots offense. He may not see a ton of looks this weekend, but considering their need and opponent, the Colts made a smart move on Monday.
