Auburn RB, Heisman finalist Tre Mason declares for NFL Draft

Running back Tre Mason is selling his stock high. The Auburn junior announced Thursday that he will enter the 2014 NFL Draft. The 5-foot-10, 190-pound Mason became a household name outside of SEC country after he gashed three top-10 teams -- Alabama, Missouri, Florida State -- in milestone games to cap off the Tigers' miracle season.
He ran for 164 yards against Nick Saban's defense in the Iron Bowl and put up 304 yards and four touchdowns through 46 carries in the conference title game, performances that were pretty much the reasons why he finished third in the Heisman Trophy voting. Then, in the BCS National Championship on Monday, Mason ran for 195 yards and scored twice against the top-ranked Seminoles.

Fantasy Analysis:

Mason isn't projected to be higher than a second-round pick, but I think his call to leave now is a smart one. Much like an alumnus from my alma mater, UCF quarterback Blake Bortles, Mason understands that he has to get out while his value is at its peak. So he won't be a first-round pick; If doesn't run for 2,000 yards and win the Heisman Trophy next year, his draft stock probably falls further. I don't think Mason is going to be some washout in the NFL. He has a determined running style, can bowl over tacklers and grinds out extra yardage.
Also, I'm not trying to hint that the Giants are even interested in Mason; I am just required to pick an "involved team" for each post before it can be shown on the site. Plus, yeah, the Giants need running backs.
