Patriots WR Kenbrell Thompkins leaves due to head injury, does not return

The Patriots are moving on to the AFC Championship, but their week ahead will contain anxiety regarding their wide receivers. The reasons for worry were added to on Saturday night when Kenbrell Thompkins exited the game against the Colts in the third quarter with a head injury and did not return. It is not known if Thompkins has been officially diagnosed with a concussion.

Fantasy Analysis:

We'll keep tabs on Thompkins, but he has become an important player for the Patriots just because they need some threat outside the numbers. With Aaron Dobson inactive due to a foot injury, and Rob Gronkowski @RobGronkowski out for a long time, the Patriots are basically out of legitimate perimeter options. Yes, they still have Julian Edelman @Edelman11 and Danny Amendola @DannyAmendola to run out of the slot and dominate targets. But if Thompkins and Dobson can't play next week, expect to see the likes of Austin Collie @AKCollie_17, another slot receiver by trade, get more playing time. This evaporation of depth could become a big problem for the Patriots if they are forced into a shootout (read: face the Broncos).
