49ers RB Frank Gore needs finger surgery; RB Marcus Lattimore should be ready for full offseason

49ers head coach Jim Harbaugh said Tuesday that lead running back Frank Gore broke his right ring finger during Sunday's loss to the Seahawks. Matt Maiocco of CSN Bay Area adds that Gore needs "minor finger surgery," according to a source. Gore should be 100 percent in plenty of time for next season.
Another Niners running back who should be ready for offseason work is Marcus Lattimore @MarcusLattimore, who sat out all of his rookie season as he continued his long road back after tearing three ligaments and dislocating his right kneecap in 2012. And that came after Lattimore tore his left ACL in 2011. But Harbaugh said he expects Lattimore to be healthy for the start of the offseason and compete for meaningful snaps next season.

Fantasy Analysis:

The 49ers drafted Lattimore in the fourth round basically understanding that he wasn't going to offer anything this season. The pick was all about upside and the future. With Gore getting ready to enter the final year of his contract and his age-31 season, Lattimore has a chance to be this team's starter by 2015. First, he'll compete against Kendall Hunter @KendallHunter32 for backup duty, but that's a battle I think Lattimore can win ... if he stays healthy. And if those knee injuries haven't sapped his immense talent. He has solid dynasty value and could be one of this league's best RBs in a few years if everything goes right.
Gore's arrow is pointing down. Look for the team to cut back on his workload if Lattimore and Hunter are both able to chip in next year.
