Giants' offensive coordinator says pass protection is 'first and foremost' for RBs

If and when Giants running back David Wilson @4stillRunning is able to return healthy from neck surgery, he'll have to get back to improving in his biggest area of weakness.
Fumbling? No, his other big area of weakness.
Following his blocks? No, his other big area of weakness.
Pass protection? Yeah, that's the ticket.
"First and foremost, the runner needs to be able to protect the quarterback," offensive coordinator Ben McAdoo told the Newark Star-Ledger. "... Obviously, it's ideal to have a guy that is functional out of the backfield catching the football, but at the end of the day, if they can't protect the quarterback, they're going to have a hard time getting on the field."

Fantasy Analysis:

Wilson's flaws in pass pro have been very evident through his first two seasons. The Giants did everything they could last summer to bring Wilson up to speed, and the reports from coaches were positive. However, the Giants showed in 2013 that they still don't trust Wilson to be on the field for passing downs and hurry-up situations. And again, he faces a long road back following spinal fusion surgery. The Giants really need to see if they can re-sign Andre Brown @drebrown35 at a bargain price. They don't have any other dependable running backs to speak of.
