Mendenhall replacement? Cardinals sign RB Jonathan Dwyer
Rashard Mendenhall has announced his retirement, and apparently the Cardinals have replaced him in a sense with his former Steelers teammate, Jonathan Dwyer . Dwyer signed a one-year deal with Arizona on Wednesday. In 2013, Dwyer carried the ball only 49 times in 15 games for Pittsburgh. He averaged four yards per carry and did not score.
Dwyer is a big body who is useful in short-yardage situations. However, as bad as Mendenhall was last season, Dwyer is not an offensive upgrade, and the team shouldn't look at him as their lead RB. If anything, this signing signifies that Andre Ellington is certainly going to see a significant uptick in touches this season.
