Panthers add to their WR corps with Jason Avant

The Panthers continued the complete rebuild of their wide receiver stock by signing Jason Avant on Monday to a one-year deal. Avant turns 31 in a couple of weeks and has moved on after spending the first eight seasons of his career in Philadelphia. Avant caught 38 passes in 2012 and has never surpassed 53 receptions in any year.

Fantasy Analysis:

Avant will work out of the slot as presumably Jerricho Cotchery @cotcheryfoundat and Tiquan Underwood @TiUnderwood take over as the No. 1 and No. 2 wideouts, respectively. All three are new to Carolina, and none of them are particularly attractive for drafting purposes. Cotchery is probably a mid-to-late-round selection at best. Avant is always good for one or two huge games per season, which fool a lot of owners into picking him up. But he is what he is: A low-ceiling possession receiver.
There isn't much left on the open market at WR, so the Panthers should make that position a major priority in May's draft.
