Vikings OC Norv Turner: QB Teddy Bridgewater 'is a lot further along than I expected him to be'

Nothing is ever decided during OTAs and minicamp. Training camp is where the real showdowns take place, and Vikings rookie quarterback Teddy Bridgewater will have one on his hands against Matt Cassel and, to a lesser extent, Christian Ponder @cponder7. Offensive coordinator Norv Turner thinks Bridgewater will acquit himself well during the competition this summer because Bridgewater is already better than he anticipated.
"Teddy's been really, really impressive and a lot further along than I expected him to be," Turner said during a Monday radio interview.

Fantasy Analysis:

Of course, Turner praised all of his quarterbacks because that's what coaches do. He said Cassel had an "outstanding" spring and is getting ready to "really have a good year." He said he has been impressed with Ponder. If you asked Turner to compliment the water boy, he probably would do that, too.
Words are cheap. The Vikings have said that they don't fear starting Bridgewater right away, but he has to prove that he deserves the honor. No matter who wins the QB battle -- he or Cassel -- either player will be a mediocre QB2. If I had to bet, I'd put my money on Cassel beginning the season as the starter, but it certainly won't last. The hope is Bridgewater can turn into the team's quarterback of the future and a dynasty stud, but let's first see what he does in full pads with large, fast men trying to crush him before planning any sort of coronation.
