Once your draft got past the eighth round this year, was there any player more intriguing than Cleveland Browns rookie running back James Davis
? Everybody -- myself included -- wanted Davis after he averaged 7.8 yards per carry in the preseason and after some weak rumors of Davis overtaking Jamal Lewis as the team's starting running back spread. Well, forget all of that now. Davis has been put on injured reserve with a shoulder injury, so his season is officially over. With Jamal Lewis likely out for Sunday's game against the Bengals, the Browns activated Chris Jennings off the practiced squad to give them another able rusher alongside Jerome Harrison.
Fantasy Analysis:
After week one, Davis said that the speed of the game (going from exhibitions to the regular season) caught him off guard. He missed Cleveland's week two game with a shoulder injury and then was very ineffective while splitting carries with Harrison last week. But this news is pretty unexpected. Davis practiced Wednesday and Thursday before popping up on the injury report as questionable on Friday, and now his season is done after just nine carries and 15 yards. Jerome Harrison is the only Browns RB that you want to consider until Lewis gets healthy; I think he is a great flex play this week against the Bengals.
