Bears acquire Gaines Adams from Buccaneers

With LB Brian Urlacher out for the season, the Chicago Bears made an attempt to bolster their defense by trading a second round pick in 2010 for Tampa Bay Buccaneers DE Gaines Adams. Adams was selected fourth overall by the Buccaneers in the 2007 NFL Draft. He played four seasons at Clemson, recording a school-record tying 28 sacks. He had 12.5 sacks in his first two seasons with the Buccaneers, but still has not lived up to expectations.

Fantasy Analysis:
Through the first five games of the 2009 season, Adams has recorded one sack, 8 tackles, and one fumble recovery. The Buccaneers currently rank 28th in total defense and have only nine sacks. With a 0-5 start, it is obvious that the Bucs are in rebuild mode. With the Minnesota Vikings dominating the NFC North and the Green Bay Packers a formidable opponent, the Bears felt they needed to bolster their defense (especially with LB Brian Urlacher out for the season). Adams was not able to produce while in Tampa Bay, but with the defensive minds that the Bears employ, there is not much doubt he will improve and become an asset. If he can resurrect himself and live up to his expectations, he could be just what the Bears are going to need down the stretch.
