Source says Chiefs will cut Larry Johnson soon
First, Kansas City Chiefs running back Larry Johnson wasn't productive on the field. Then he turned into a distraction and a malcontent off the field. He has been told to stay away from the team indefinitely, but that's apparently not enough. According to a team source who spoke to RealGM.com's Jeff Risdon on Tuesday afternoon, the Chiefs will sever ties with the problematic running back before the end of the week. The source said that barring Johnson from having any contact with the team is a precursory move before the team formally releases Johnson. Part of the delay in releasing him involves going through the NFL's disciplinary investigation, but the source was adamant that Johnson has played his last game in Kansas City. Johnson, who hasn't scored and is averaging just 2.7 yards per carry after 132 carries this season, questioned head coach Todd Haley's football experience and then reportedly called both one of his Twitter followers and some media members looking for comments Monday a three-letter homosexual slur.
Fantasy Analysis:
It's not hard to believe that the Chiefs are done with Johnson for the season, but it would be a little surprising if they cut him before the end of the week. Still, you should probably feel free to release Johnson from your fantasy team and go pick up backup running back Jamaal Charles right away. He is a short, fast multi-purpose back who should get 15-20 touches every week.
