Matthew Stafford, Calvin Johnson both practice on Thursday
The Detroit Lions expect to have quarterback Matthew Stafford back under center this Sunday versus the St. Louis Rams. Surprisingly, it looks like wide receiver Calvin Johnson will be able to join him. On Thursday, Stafford practiced for the third consecutive day and looks ready to return after a partial knee dislocation in week four. Johnson, who missed the past two days of practice, went through some drills in the part of practice the media is allowed to watch on Thursday. He ran routes and caught passes and didn't appear to be hobbled by his knee injury. Nothing is official, but if Johnson doesn't have any swelling or a setback of any other kind by Friday, it appears he'll also play Sunday. He injured his right knee early in the team's week five game against Pittsburgh and hasn't played since.
Fantasy Analysis:
Head coach Jim Schwartz will keep the statuses of these two players pretty quiet until game time, but it's looking positive for them to return in a very good match-up against the Rams. Johnson is a bit more questionable than Stafford, but if he doesn't appear to be limited by his right knee, he should be good to go and will be a must-start. Stafford is still just a No. 2 QB at best, but if you were ever going to use him, this would be a fine week to do so.
