Chiefs cut Larry Johnson

Kansas City Chiefs running back Larry Johnson's two-week suspension for conduct detrimental to the team ended Monday, but everyone pretty much figured that he would never play for the Chiefs again. The team made that assumption a reality today, cutting Johnson. Johnson, who ran for more than 3,600 yards in a two-year period from 2006 to 2007, is in the midst of the worst season of his career. He is averaging just 2.7 yards per carry on 132 carries and has yet to score a touchdown. Johnson is now on waivers, but with his prorated $4.55 million base salary and $60,000-plus per-game roster bonus, he'll likely clear waivers and become an unrestricted free agent.

Fantasy Analysis:
I have no idea where Johnson will land, but someone will certainly take a chance on him; you probably shouldn't. In my opinion, Larry Johnson is done as a capable fantasy running back. With him out of town, it looks like Jamaal Charles and Kolby Smith will split carries. On Sunday, Charles got most of the work in the first and third quarters versus Jacksonville. Smith was on the field for most of the second and fourth quarters. That kind of split makes each back a risky play, especially considering how terrible the Chiefs' offensive line is. But with remaining match-ups against Oakland, Buffalo and Cleveland, they could definitely be worth a shot in some weeks. Both should be owned immediately and Charles is probably the better fantasy back of the two because he is faster and a better receiver.
