Clinton Portis ruled out for week 10; Ladell Betts likely starter

RSS

Washington Redskins running back Clinton Portis was listed as doubtful early in the week and he has been officially ruled out for the team's week 10 game against the Denver Broncos. Portis suffered a concussion in the first quarter against the Atlanta Falcons last week that kept him on the bench for the rest of the game. Portis said after the game that he couldn't even remember the play on which he sustained the concussion. Ladell Betts has been limited in practice this week because of a sprained ankle, but he is expected to see the majority of the carries as Portis' replacement.

Fantasy Analysis:
All of Portis' owners should have been expecting this news; this is just confirmation. Betts is not a great start against a good Denver defense that has allowed just three rushing touchdowns all season, and it doesn't help that Washington's offensive line is pretty poor. But, if you are looking for a reason to start him, the Broncos are coming off a short week and just got repeatedly gashed by Rashard Mendenhall on Monday night. Betts is not Mendenhall's caliber, but he is a good receiving back who may get some garbage-time points. He did gain 103 total yards and a touchdown in limited work against the Falcons. Maybe I'm grasping at straws, but if you need a sleeper flex play, Betts isn't a horrible option.
