Expert Picks for The Heritage
Charles Howell III [Yahoo Class A] - World Ranking: #56
CH3 continues to bash his way into the rankings based on history (he has as many starts on this track as almost any golfer we've listed above) and results. He seems to enjoy the links of Harbour Town and his improved accuracy off the tee could help him surge this season.
Bill Haas [Yahoo Class B] - World Ranking: #31
Haas has managed to solidify a place in our hearts as one of the best "sleeper" options, touting a 2011 resume suggesting he is making a significant step forward in his career. He doesn't own much in terms of positive reflection at Hilton Head, but his game in 2011 demands consideration.
Fredrik Jacobson [Yahoo Class B] - World Ranking: #93
Jacobson helped us look good during the Texas Open last week and we'll keep riding that momentum as he hits up Harbour Town, a track he has enjoyed over recent seasons and a place that seems to give him positive value for fantasy owners during the weeks after The Masters.
Stewart Cink [Yahoo Class B] - World Ranking: #179
Cink hasn't gotten out of the fantasy doghouse for some time, but this is one tourney where you might consider a reprieve. He owns a long and impressive record of performance at The Heritage, though his recent struggles may turn you away.
Ben Crane [Yahoo Class B] - World Ranking: #106
Crane is one of the members of the non-elite knocking on the door wanting in. He has all the game needed to conquer a course like Harbour Town, but we are leery due to his lack of experience at this event. Most have been here multiple times while Crane normally takes a pass.
Graeme McDowell [Yahoo Class C] - World Ranking: #14
McDowell joins the ranks of the international stars descending on Harbour Town this week, a spot not normally associated with such allure. It's been some time since we've seen McDowell's best on full display on the Tour, but we know he has the skills to compete.
Sean O'Hair [Yahoo Class C] - World Ranking: #156
O'Hair continues to push for a return to greatness, though it has been far too long since we've seen it, thus the trepidation in pushing our fantasy chips in his corner. His struggles with the putter are likely to be an issue, but O'Hair still ranks as a worthy candidate for fantasy employment this week.
Glover has fallen off the map for most fantasy owners, having struggled to maintain any semblance of consistency since his major win two years ago. This week we anticipate he may rise from the shadows again at The Heritage where he tends to put his best foot forward.
Brendon de Jonge [Yahoo Class B] - World Ranking: #80
Momentum alone could put de Jonge on your roster for the week, working as one of the more impressive golfers on the rise over the last two years with more than his fair share of positive outings coming towards The Heritage. He seems like a good fit on any course these days.
Barnes has left us wanting more on several occasions this season, but Harbour Town appears to be one track where he might shine. He's played well here over recent visits to Hilton Head and we've seen just enough from his bag of late to believe it can happen again.
We are starting to wonder if Verplank's time as a persistent force in fantasy leagues is coming to an end. Over recent campaigns he's been a consistent source of reliable production, but he is struggling through 2011. If he falls this week we might reconsider the respect we typical throw his way.
Kevin Na [Yahoo Class C] - World Ranking: #73
Na is one of the more talented golfers in the field for this or any other week, but he tends to struggle for consistency over four days of competition. We have yet to see him enjoy prolonged success at Harbour Town but that could change in 2011.
