Expert Picks for U.S. Open Championship
Peter Hanson [Yahoo Class C] - World Ranking: #61
Since we brought up sleepers, we have this name in our back pocket expecting few, if any, owners will be jumping on the wagon. Hanson is a top international talent who spends limited time on the Tour. However, we've seen his name near the top of several major leaderboards and we've seen him play well at this particular track. It's a definite risk, but there are times when risk can bring reward.
Bill Haas [Yahoo Class B] - World Ranking: #32
Every owner should consider some of the golfers on the rise every time the US Open comes around, and Haas is one of those players. He has served the roto heads well this season, and while the links at Congressional will be tricked to the gills, Haas has proven his ability under pressure.
Rickie Fowler [Yahoo Class A] - World Ranking: #53
Fowler has taken the reins once owned by Anthony Kim as the most likely to dominate the Tour in years ahead. It seems a bit early to anticipate a US Open title but he has the skills needed to for this opportunity.
Alvaro Quiros [Yahoo Class C] - World Ranking: #119
Several names tempt for the final three spots (Manassero, DL3, D.Johnson, Scott), we are going to swing with one of our favorite international targets. We mention Quiros every time the majors come through the schedule as he readily enjoys showing off his skills against the best in the world. The kid can play and we love to bet on his number.
Charl Schwartzel [Yahoo Class C] - World Ranking: #18
He is still young in terms of golf, but Schwartzel has a major on the mantle and clearly knows how to swing on a grand stage. We would be shocked to see a run for the slam, but we'd love to cheer for it. Charl has the talent to surprise... again.
David Toms [Yahoo Class C] - World Ranking: #138
We are looking at two hot hands -- Toms and Robert Karlsson -- for the final spot in the rankings; for the US Open, we're going with the American. It may be you like Toms for his experience, a major winner with more than a few rounds played at Congressional. You may like his momentum coming into the US Open, playing the best golf he has in years. Either way, you like him.
