Golf Rankings for The Honda Classic
Charles Howell III [Yahoo Class A] - World Ranking: #56
After finishing with a share of second at the Sony Open, Howell finished outside of the top 30 in four straight events until recording a T16 last week at Mayakoba. While the competition this week is a big step up, Howell finished a career-best T10 in the Honda last year.
Ryan Moore [Yahoo Class A] - World Ranking: #37
After missing the cut at the Honda in 2007 and 2009, Moore skipped the event the last two years. He’s coming off two consecutive top-20 finishes and ranks fourth in birdie average.
Jim Furyk [Yahoo Class B] - World Ranking: #21
From 2000-05 prior to the change in venue, Furyk competed in the Honda on four occasions with two top-five finishes and finished no worse than ninth. Since then he’s only played at the Champion Course once, a T31 in 2007. After an uneven performance at Pebble, Furyk recorded a T11 the following week at the Northern Trust Open.
Rickie Fowler [Yahoo Class A] - World Ranking: #35
Even though Fowler missed the cut in his first two starts at the Honda, he should not be dismissed completely. He opened the year with a T13 and T26 until struggling in his last two stroke play events. Fowler is 10th in total driving and is among the best young players on Tour.
Thomas Bjorn [Yahoo Class C] - World Ranking: #25
In his four stroke play events this season, all on the European Tour, Bjorn has collected one top-five, two top-10s and has not finished outside of top-25. Last year Bjorn made just four stroke play Tour starts, highlighted by a solo fourth in The Open Championship.
Jerry Kelly [Yahoo Class B] - World Ranking: #126
Kelly would be a solid pick among lower-tier drivers if not for a poor start to 2012. He’s scored three top-20s in his last four Honda events, including a career-best solo third last year. However, Kelly has missed two cuts this season with only one top-30 in four starts.
