Golf Rankings for Valero Texas Open
Ryan Palmer [Yahoo Class C] - World Ranking: #55
After a T9 in his debut at TPC San Antonio, Palmer missed the cut last year after a round of 80 on the second day. Over his last six starts he’s notched four top-30s, but also missed two cuts. Palmer ranks sixth in strokes gained – putting and 11th in driving distance.
Greg Chalmers [Yahoo Class C] - World Ranking: #195
Over his last seven stoke play events Chalmers owns four top-20s with two missed cuts. The Australian has never played TPC San Antonio, but is playing well enough to keep on your radar.
Chris Stroud [Yahoo Class C] - World Ranking: #74
After an uneven start to the season, Stroud put together a streak of three top-15s until a poor finish at Redstone. Despite the bumps in the road, Stroud ranks 15th in scoring average. Stroud played at TPC San Antonio each of the last two years, but missed both cuts.
While Taylor did not record a top-30 at TPC San Antonio in his previous two starts, he has been playing well as of late. Taylor has collected four finishes of 21st or better in his last five starts and has made six straight cuts.
Cameron Tringale [Yahoo Class C] - World Ranking: #113
Tringale finished T8 at Redstone -- his most recent start of 2012 -- but owns just one other top-10 result in 10 starts this season. The timing is perfect for Tringale after finishing T5 at TPC San Antonio year and T28 in 2010.
Jimmy Walker [Yahoo Class C] - World Ranking: #24
In 2010, Walker finished T3 at TPC San Antonio, but would miss the cut last year. At one point earlier in the season Walker recorded one top-five and three top-10s in a span of four events, but has only found one top-25 in his last four.
Brendan Steele [Yahoo Class C] - World Ranking: #138
If you decide to start Steele it is only because he’s the defending champion at TPC San Antonio. Steele has missed three straight cuts and five of his last eight. In that span he’s only finished better than 69th once.
Matt Every [Yahoo Class B] - World Ranking: #42
In 10 starts this season Every has proven to be an all-or-nothing type of player. He’s missed half of his cuts, but also notched three top-10s. Every competed at TPC San Antonio last year and finished T30.
Spencer Levin [Yahoo Class C] - World Ranking: #169
After an impressive 2011 campaign, Levin has gotten off to a slow start this season. Facing this light field of competition could be the jump start Levin needs. He finished T9 at TPC San Antonio in 2010, but missed the cut last year.
Knost is coming off a solo third at Harbour Town (his second top-20 in nine starts this season), a T3 at the Mayakoba Golf Classic. If Knost can keep things going, his ranking of sixth in driving accuracy percentage could prove to be very useful.
Kevin Chappell [Yahoo Class C] - World Ranking: #111
Over his last six starts, Chappell has finished inside the top 30 on three occasions. He is worth considering this week thanks to a share of second at TPC San Antonio last year.
Charlie Wi [Yahoo Class C] - World Ranking: #110
After finishing T17 at TPC San Antonio in 2010, Wi skipped this event last year. Since finishing solo second at Pebble Beach, he has only managed one top-30 in five starts.
