Titans' QB Kerry Collins retires
It probably came two years later than than it should have, but Kerry Collins officially called it a career Thursday. He announced his retirement through a statement released by his agent. "The past several months have brought on much introspection, and I have decided that while my desire to compete on Sundays is still and always will be there, my willingness to commit to the preparation necessary to play another season has waned to a level that I feel is no longer adequate to meet the demands of the position," the 38-year-old Collins said in the statement. Collins' 16-year career ends with him ranking in the all-time top-15 in passing yards and pass attempts. He recorded 216 total touchdowns and 195 interceptions. He was a two-time Pro Bowler who made it to one Super Bowl, a loss with the Giants to the Ravens in Super Bowl XXXV. His best fantasy season came in 2000 as Collins threw for 22 touchdowns, 13 interceptions and 3,610 yards. Collins had one 4,000-yard season, which came in 2002 with the Giants. Collins, the first-ever pick of the Carolina Panthers in 1995, also played with the Saints and the Raiders before spending his final five NFL seasons with the Titans.
Fantasy Analysis:
Collins was a mistake-prone player -- he had 34 more turnovers than touchdowns -- but he made a pretty nice career for himself. Unfortunately, that career probably should have ended after 2008; he hasn't been much since. This news leaves Rusty Smith (ugh) and Brett Ratliff (no game experience) behind rookie Jake Locker on the Titans' QB depth chart. They will definitely add a veteran arm after the lockout ends.
