Chris Johnson a lock to hold out
NFL Network analyst Mike Lombardi is reporting that Tennessee Titans running back Chris Johnson "will under no circumstances" report to training camp without a new contract. Johnson's current salary is $800K, a value that will need to dramatically increase before he returns to the team. This story was originally reported in June but now things are looking more official. Johnson is reportedly seeking a huge deal, a deal that would make "history."
Fantasy Analysis:
CJ2K deserves all the money the Titans can afford to throw at him. He is the beginning and the end of their offense. If they aren't able to sign a veteran QB, Johnson should go ahead and sit for the year from fears of getting injured from overuse. In his three years in the league, he has 925 carries and 137 receptions. Although will only turn 26 in Septemeber, the wear and tear always adds up. If Johnson were to get injured this year, there's no way he'd be able recoup all the money he deserves for being such an incredible back in his short career. Fantasy owners should be very concerned about this (remember Vincent Jackson?) and should monitor this situation as it develops over the next few weeks.
