Report: Tarvaris Jackson has agreed to terms with Seahawks

Turns out that Tarvaris Jackson @7tjackson was indeed the quarterback whom Seattle was going for. According to sources via Dave Mahler at KJR Radio 950 in Seattle, the Seahawks have agreed to terms with the former Minnesota Vikings quarterback. On Tuesday, Mahler tweeted: "Hearing from source #seahawks have come to terms with QB Tarvares Jackson. Flying to Seattle tonight." Spelling notwithstanding, this report seems to be correct. Jackson would reunite with offensive coordinator Darrell Bevell, who held that same position with the Vikings from 2006-10. Terms of the deal were not disclosed, but remember that a free-agent signing can not be made official until 6 p.m. Eastern on Friday.

Fantasy Analysis:

My guess is that Jackson will go up against Charlie Whitehurst in a training camp battle. I have nothing but bad jokes about that one. Jackson has started 20 games in his first five seasons, and he's nothing special. He has thrown almost as many interceptions as touchdowns, and he averaged 5.9 yards per attempt last year. In his most active season -- 2007 -- he averaged 6.5 yards over 294 passes. Jackson is athletic, very familiar with the offense that Seattle runs, just 28 years old and probably better than Whitehurst. But this isn't a tremendous upgrade from Matt Hasselbeck @Hasselbeck. This is almost a horizontal move. Maybe it's a cash-saving acquisition so that the Seahawks can now aim toward Sidney Rice @sidneyrice? I don't know, but this news doesn't make me very optimistic about any Seahawk WR in fantasy this season.
