Ravens' Ray Rice had knee surgery in March
The headline is more ominous than the actual story. We're just finding out now that shortly before the lockout locked in, Baltimore Ravens running back Ray Rice underwent knee surgery. Specifically, he had a small piece of floating cartilage removed. However, Rice isn't worried, and it doesn't sound like there's a reason why he should be. He passed his conditioning test and "looked fit" in workouts, according to the Baltimore Sun.
"After the surgery, I had to rest the knee for two to three weeks which is part of the normal process," Rice said. "There was no pain, no swelling. Since then, I've participated in my usual workouts and most people know that I'm a hard worker. I haven't missed one workout. As for training camp, the Ravens have a plan. They are going to see how I feel and phase me in. They know they have to be smart with me, and I have to be smart as well. But everything feels great."
Fantasy Analysis:
So, yeah. There's that. Rice may take it a little easy during training camp and the preseason, but it's all just precautionary. He'll be fine for September and remains a top-5 fantasy RB. Now we'll have to see if the Ravens keep Le'Ron McClain, re-sign Willis McGahee and/or add somebody new to complement Rice.
