Patriots TE Rob Gronkowski probably needs ankle surgery

So much for being "good to go." Serves me right for trusting the words of a New England Patriot regarding an injury issue. Tight end Rob Gronkowski @RobGronkowski has a left high-ankle sprain and some ligament damage that will likely require surgery after the Super Bowl. Gronkowski, who is listed as questionable on the injury report, is still expected to play in the game. How effective he'll be with that ankle will remain of the game's top talking points all next week.

Fantasy Analysis:

The surgery would be just a scope, so it won't threaten Gronkowski's status for OTAs. The Patriots wanted to stay mum on Gronkowski's injury, but his dad let it slip that he indeed has a high-ankle sprain. But I think we all pretty much assumed that after watching the replays of his ankle getting rolled up on last week. Now that it has been confirmed and ligament damage is included, it's very fair to wonder how limited Gronkowski will be against the Giants. Ben Roethlisberger said during Pro Bowl practices this week that he's still dealing with some pain in his left ankle, and he sustained a very similar injury on Dec. 8.
