Giants TEs Jake Ballard, Travis Beckum have torn ACLs

While the New York Giants and their fans -- ahem! -- bask in the glow of their fourth Super Bowl win, the team has a big problem at tight end. Both Jake Ballard @TheJakeBallard and Travis Beckum @TravisBeckum47 tore ACLs during Suday's big game. Ballard, who gained 604 yards and scored four touchdowns in a surprise regular season, went down early in the fourth quarter with a knee injury. He was then seen collapsing on the sidelines in the middle of a run a few minutes later, possibly doing more damage to his knee. Beckum was injured in the first quarter. Both will need reconstructive surgery and will likely not be ready for the start of the 2012 season.

Fantasy Analysis:

Thanks to modern medicine and the times we live in, the recovery timetable for torn ACLs has shrunk just over the past decade. But these players face very long odds of playing before week seven of 2012 as I fully expect that they will start the year on the Physically Unable to Perform list. With Bear Pascoe @BearPascoe representing the team's only healthy tight end, the Giants will need to look toward the draft for a suitable replacement. But as they've shown in recent years, they don't need to spend a high draft pick on a tight end. They can make it work with someone chosen in the middle rounds (Kevin Boss) or an undrafted free agent (Ballard).
