Giants TE Jake Ballard will 'surely' miss half of 2012 after more surgery

New York Giants tight end Jake Ballard @TheJakeBallard didn't just tear his ACL during the most recent Super Bowl. He also needed microfracture surgery on top of that for an injury he says occurmred as he tried to test out his knee on the sidelines.
"My knee just collapsed," Ballard said to the Newark Star-Ledger. "I definitely tore [my ACL] on the field. I'd say [the cartilage damage] probably happened on the sideline from trying to run with no ACL. But I don't regret trying to get back in the game. It's the biggest game in any football player's career."
NFL.com's Gregg Rosenthal wrote that Ballard will "surely miss" half of this season. And there's a possibility that the entire season could be wiped out for him.

Fantasy Analysis:

Ballard came on last season and was a pretty nice fill-in for those who needed a TE in fantasy. However, he's not very physically gifted, and he's going to have a hard time regaining his previous form after these types of injuries and surgeries. I think you can effectively cross him off your 2012 draft list. Martellus Bennett @MartysaurusRex, a tight end with a lot of athleticism, is looking like a deep sleeper right now. But the Giants could choose to address this position further during the draft.
