Bengals WR Jerome Simpson gets 3-game suspension
Wide receiver Jerome Simpson
has been handed a three-game suspension by the NFL for violating the league's substance abuse policy. The suspension is one game less than expected, but Simpson's lack of prior offenses on his criminal record played a role in the reduced penalty. The suspension comes after Simpson was caught having two pounds of marijuana sent to his residence last year. He has already served his 15 days in jail for the felony drug charge. He was also sentenced to three years probation and 200 hours of community service. He'll have to undergo drug testing and pay a $7,500 fine along with court costs.
Fantasy Analysis:
Simpson is a free agent and isn't expected back with the Bengals. The Rams and Vikings seem to be the leading suitors. He has solid WR3 upside, but he doesn't have a home for 2012 yet and will miss almost a quarter of the season. As such, Simpson is worth only a late-round flier at the moment.
