WR Jerome Simpson signs 1-year deal with Vikings
It's a big Jerome Simpson
news day! Spare hours after his three-game suspension became public, Simpson signed a contract with the Minnesota Vikings. It's a one-year deal, and financial terms have not yet ben disclosed. Simpson has been in the league for four seasons, but 2011 was clearly his best. He caught 50 passes for 725 yards and four touchdowns with the Cincinnati Bengals.
Fantasy Analysis:
Percy Havin is the Vikings' No. 1 WR, but there was a gigantic void in talent past him on the outside. No one wants to put Devin Aromashodu or Michael Jenkins in their starting lineup, so Simpson is a welcomed acquisition, even with his suspension. He's clearly more athletic and has more big-play ability than those other two guys. However, Simpson been nothing if not inconsistent in the NFL, so he should be viewed in fantasy as a reserve pick who has the talent to become an every-week WR3 in 12-team leagues. Of course, a lot of that will depend on how Christian Ponder
improves in his second year.
