Eagles HC Andy Reid hints at cutting back RB LeSean McCoy's carries
Philadelphia Eagles running back LeSean McCoy
certainly isn't a hulking player. But when you turn 321 touches into more than 1,600 yards and 20 total touchdowns, it's got to be hard for Eagles coaches to stop giving him the ball. However, head coach Andy Reid said Saturday that he probably gave it to McCoy a bit too much last season.
"With Dion (Lewis), I would have liked to have gotten him a little more time last year as we went on," Reid said. "I didn't end up doing that and I probably overplayed McCoy a little bit, even though he doesn't want to hear that. As he continues to get older and have the number of reps under his belt that he does, you'll want to back off the number of reps that he does.
Fantasy Analysis:
Yes, as McCoy gets older, the Eagles should want to manage his carries carefully. But hopefully Reid knows that McCoy doesn't even turn 24 years old until July. Just remember: A coach's best-laid plans in the preseason go out the window when it's time to win. And the Eagles need McCoy to contribute heavily to win. He'll continue to do so this season and is a first-round lock. Reid's statements here in April shouldn't affect McCoy's value.
